SBS contributed as an ECB Digital Euro Pioneer
The European Central Bank (ECB) launched an innovation platform to collaborate with European market participants as part of the digital euro project.
The results of the innovation platform have now been published. SBS participated in the Pioneer Workstream on Conditional Payments.
Conditional payments, i.e., payments that are made automatically when certain predefined conditions are met, were identified as a possible key driver of innovation. They were named as an example of the everyday conveniences that European citizens can look forward to with the digital euro.
SBS Delivers Technological Depth — For the ECB and the Market
As part of the Pioneer Programme, SBS gained deep insights into the technical architecture, regulatory framework, and strategic implications of the digital euro. This early access enabled SBS to pilot real-world scenarios and gather experience essential for building future-ready architectures supporting the digital euro for banks and payment providers.
We investigated how conditional payments control different payment processes at electric charging stations. The objectives were to define the logic and processes involved and to identify areas of application.
We tested the feasibility using the ECB's specifications and test environment.
